SERVICE PROJECTS

The Rotary Club of Forest completes service projects regularly in Central Virginia and around the world. It is most well known locally for Forest Rotary Park, the all-inclusive playground located behind the Forest branch of the Bedford County Public Library on Rt 221.

Community service is one of the Avenues of Service which encourages Rotarians to offer service to our communities.

One of our Rotary Club's most important service projects is the playground at the Forest Public Library. We have provided playground equipment in excess of $150,000 so far to this all-access playground, and we'll continue to grow and expand it in the coming years.

CURRENT PROJECTS

  • Forest Rotary Park

    Rotarians and family members voiunteer regularly to help maintain the playground by spreading mulch, reconfiguring mats and installing new equipment as funds allow.

  • Clean Sweep in Wyndhurst

    Our Club has adopted Enterprise Drive in the Wyndhurst Neighborhood. Several times a year we clean the sidewalks, grass, and gutters of trash and debris.

  • Thanksgiving Meals

    Many of our families couldn’t have a Thanksgiving feast without the generosity of our community. Every Fall, we collect Thanksgiving food items for HumanKind to distribute to needy families.

Meals on Wheels Birthday Boxes

ONGOING SERVICE PROJECT

Birthday boxes are a small plastic container or sturdy shoebox that can be filled with personal hygiene or household items and given to Meals on Wheels recipients and their family for their birthday. 

Sharon has volunteered to deliver these boxes to Meals on Wheels. If you are in a position to be able to do so, please consider assembling a box with the following items. These boxes can be specifically tailored and marked for either a man or woman, if desired. Most of these can be purchased in a small "travel" size portion from a store such as Dollar Tree or Walmart for a reasonable out-of-pocket cost. 

Small personal sized tissue pack (Kleenex)
Toothbrush
Small toothpaste
Lip balm
Deodorant 
Nail clippers
Package of ballpoint pens
Emery boards
Small note pad 
Large print crossword puzzle book
Small bars or "cakes" of soap
Small bottle of liquid dish detergent 
Small bottle of liquid hand soap 
Razors (men's or women's) 
Scotch tape
Small hand lotion 
Small hand sanitizer 

Please also include a birthday card on top of the items purchased. Sign only your first name or your "Friend in Forest Rotary Club"
